In answer to your question is there a value 9 for yellow, the answer is no! Each hue can be seen as a value, even white for example. So if your hue is not dark enough, and no pure hue will go to value 9, you need to add something to get your darks and shadows. Even a… -

I started with dark red to make the shaded areas, then added other reds and orange but ended up with a muddy mess. Should I have started with a brighter red, then added darker red for the darker areas? (I do kind of like my stem at least.)

Perhaps a bit more transition from the shadow area to the light area. On the green form and light touch of highlight would help it sparkle. Your lay down of tone is nice and delicate
