Photo in the group Botanical Basics Discussion Board 9 years, 8 months agoHi Liz, it it getting better. Now try and make your highlight a bit irregular so that it doesn’t have a clear edge to it. It could feather into the next tones that are slightly lighter. Practicing this over and over on different subjects or next on a branch is a good idea.

Photo in the group Botanical Basics Discussion Board 9 years, 8 months agoHi Sheryl, Nice start here. Photograph from above so we can see your drawing better. I like that you did the same tomato twice. That is always a great idea! That way you can compare results and approaches!

Photo in the group Botanical Basics Discussion Board 9 years, 8 months agoHi Kristin, this branch looks really good! The highlight integrates nicely and your details are believable but don’t over power the main idea of the three dimensional branch!

Photo in the group Botanical Basics Discussion Board 9 years, 8 months agoHi Liz, you should now get some lighter tones that are closer to the tone or value of the paper and add those in. In the end only leave a tiny bit of the paper color showing as an irregular highlight and not to appear as a stripe. And then try a branch! Keep the lightest tone of the highlight to the far left side!

Photo in the group Botanical Basics Discussion Board 9 years, 8 months agoI would make the reflective highlight on the blue sphere darker in value and also it is a bit to regular and straight. Think of reflective highlights as gradual lighter color and not such a sharp edge to them. Nice gradual toning on the spheres

Photo in the group Botanical Basics Discussion Board 9 years, 8 months agoHi Karye, this is an excellent page. I think you are getting these concepts beautifully. I would pay attention to your darker tones and perhaps get a bit more darker tone on your shadow side. Just a little more from 9 to 8 to 7

Photo in the group Botanical Basics Discussion Board 9 years, 8 months agoHi Peter, this looks good. Just make your highlight a bit irregular by having it not look like a continuous stripe down the center. Also next time move it a bit to the left as Vern mentioned!

Photo in the group Botanical Basics Discussion Board 9 years, 8 months agoHI Nancy, I think you are right and the top sphere is more refined. I actually think you can still work it and add more layers getting darker on the shadow side and closer and closer with light tones to the highlight!
