Sublime! I’m simply in awe of this piece, Doug! I love the subtle colours and whole composition, the way the apples and leaves are very natural. It’s a joy to look at! Thanks for sharing your wonderful work.

Thank you, Doug! I’m so happy to read this!
Yours and Pam’s recent feedback, motivate me to keep at it! Also, it encourages me to show what I’m doing. I’ve felt a bit intimidated, to post my work, but am finding it’s a safe place, that can only help me to learn and improve. 😊 -

Sure! Although it’s best to work from life, sometimes you have to use photos.

My mallow study page from the Hollengold Farm workshop. I will work on this a bit more — I want to clarify the edges of the leaf in the egg sac detail in the bottom right corner and continue to build up the drybrush layers in the closed bud. And I plan on adding some color to the detail of the style and stamens/anthers. I’ll probably add some…[Read more]

Maureen, This is just so wonderful. It was a treat to get to watch you work on this over the weekend. Loving it!!!

Thank you, @pgthompson — I learned so much by watching your demos! Thank you for the guidance!

Maureen! The flow of this layout is so engaging. Beautiful art and excellent observation – a great meeting of artistic and scientific mind. It was so fun spending the weekend with you and I look forward to more adventures.

Thank you, @sam-mcwilliams — it was great spending time with you and I’m also looking forward to more adventures! (And I did get to bird Central Park on Monday; I found some confusing fall warblers and an impressive number of cormorants, in addition to our usual year-round residents.) BTW, my friend went to a nature-themed writing workshop last…[Read more]

Hi Marie- as Pam said previously your graphite drawing was really well done, but I have to say the color version is even better! Really wonderful!!! The colors seem spot on and it just glows as nectarines can do! The main highlight really stands out on the color version and enhances the drawing. The cast shadow looks good – it angles back at the…[Read more]

Thank you everyone! Pam, I totally agree with you – the pit is very far away, not sure why I did that. Maybe I was hoping to add some leaves between the fruit and the pit but I don’t have access to a peach tree. Is it okay if I try to do something based on the ones you showed in the workshop?

Enjoyed the process and hope to get better with practice. Struggled with main highlights in both graphite and coloured drawing. Did I get the cast shadow right? Please let me know what you think.

Hi Marie- I think it is safe to say we are all happy you are finding the ArtFeed a positive experience! And we get to see your artwork so it is a win – win!!!!

Marie! This looks fantastic. Great job. The skin looks really shiny – true to nectarine. Forgive me if I’m repeating something already said – I think you could blend your cast shadow a bit smoother between that dark dark right next to the fruit and the lighter toning next to it – aim for a smooth transition 🙂 It already looks awesome – just a…[Read more]

Very nice, Susan! The skin of these apples are beautiful. The color and texture is gorgeous. And those highlights are great. You are getting wonderful 3D form. Great job! You may want to adjust the cast shadow of the apple on the right a bit. When your light is coming from the upper left, that cast shadow should go back behind the right side of…[Read more]

This is another gorgeous drawing, Sheila. There is one area that is bothering me a bit. There is a spot on the bottom right of the left page where the bottom of the queen ann’s lace, the petiole of the Ginkgo leaf, and the seed pods meet. Maybe you could consider making that queen anne’s lace stem a little longer, so that they don’t all converge…[Read more]
