Beautiful Erin!!! Love the colors and simplicity of this image! It looks amazing on the Kraft paper! I would expect that the three leaves that are on the backside would have cast shadows on them from the stem and other leaves.

Love the view of the cut open hip Rita! Also love the delicacy of the petals!

Thanks Doug! I agree about the cast shadows and am adding them. I’ve been learning about atmospheric perspective but I don’t think this is a great subject for that

Thank you Vern

@katylyness thanks for your feedback, Katy. I’m wondering about those leaves, too. I’ll try to add another element to break up that line. -

This comment has sent me back to the video lessons to review the basics and the methodical steps in constructing a drawing. I keep forgetting, in the effort to capture the details.

So delightful, you’ve captured everything I love about these winter treasures! What size brush are you using for these fine details?

Hi Karen, I have been following your progress with your drawings and it is great seeing things come together. Such good work! In this piece I love the richness of color you are getting. I am really starting to feel the volume. What you need to work on now is getting the sense of “light on ‘form” Think of where the light source is. Think of the…[Read more]

Hi Ishbel, lovely winter feel! You really captured the textures and rhythm of the plant at this time of year. Those tenacious leaves and berries! Gotta love em.

I’m trying to decide if I like all the leaves on the bottom half of the composition. In a way it makes sense. They would be falling to the ground. With the airy elements on the top. Maybe less of a straight line. But I am being picky. It is lovely as it is.

Hi Rita, this is such a lively drawing! I love the greens with the magentas! And the centers of the flowers are so luscious! And I love the shine on the leaf. I agree with Doug, you could make those flowers be more cup shaped by adding some shading. Think of the light on form and how you would shade for a cup shape.

I am loving this. It feels like a celebration. A party.

@pgthompson thanks, Pam. This piece was kind of somber initially while I was thinking of someone special who died, but then it seemed to transform in a celebration of their life.

@vern the yellow cup is a dried rose petal 😎 I’m planning on doing a bunch of petals soon! Speaking of petals, are you guys in Hawaii?

Great composition Rita! I think you need some toning on the white flowers to give the flowers some depth and delineation. For example, the flower on the top right. After looking at it for a while I know that the flower face is suppose to be facing left (with the petals curving in towards the center), but it reads to me that it is facing right (and…[Read more]
