  • I agree that these are very interesting, but I am not sure what I am seeing as these have a feeling of a scull almost with recessed areas. Are these whole cherries, and are you trying to show shine? If you have a photo of your real subject that would be very helpful. Your stem is awesome!!!

  • This is an interesting composition. I like how you included the two bottom tomato “tops”, but facing you so you see the side that was connected to the tomato.

  • You have really come a long way Shelia. This is so lovely and has wonderful personality. I think the highlights are fine, but you could tone down some except that They are all sort of on the same plane so it is hard to decide. Love your cast shadows!!!!!

  • This is really interesting. I think you did a good job of making them not look flat.

  • Working on a cherry composition. The cherries are so dark, that it’s quite challenging to make sure they don’t appear flat. I might add a bit more madder to brighten them a little….

    • I know, they do look a bit like skulls! Probably not a very good photo of the drawings, I’ll put up a photo of the real thing. They are whole cherries, and I am trying to show shine. I’ve got a lot more colour to add on to the second and third cherries as I’ve only just added base shadows at this point.

    • Wendy always reminds me to tone the whole object first so I can feel the roundness of the overall form, before I start to get all involved with the surface details – that always helps me to remember to do the basic form first – or I get lost too early in the details, and the viewer can’t see easily what’s going on. 🙂

  • Thank you Sam. Nice to meet you. I appreciate your feedback and your advice on branches and stems. I was always afraid to tackle yellow but am enjoying attempting it now. I’ll try and add a photo of this rose. It was stunning and had the most beautiful fragrance.

  • Yeah – stunner.
