Stephanie, this is lovely. What I’ll often do when tryin to figure out a composition, is to make some quick drawings on tracing paper to see what it would look like. That way I can play around with the composition. You could give that a try. Could you incorporate the red leaves into the drawing of the of the white berries in a bunch? There is also…[Read more]

Thank you, Doug, for your excellent suggestion. I did a quick and dirty job this morning so that the revised version can be discussed at today’s Zoom.

Hi Machi! The apples are gorgeous! The composition is really nice, but I see what you mean about there being a lot of leaves. One observation is that there is a lot of contrast on the leaves, which I don’t expect and I find distracting. I would tone down a lot of the bright white highlights. Also, if you frame this piece, I would consider c…[Read more]

Great colors and composition Maureen! Being picky, I would expect to see a shadow projected from the stem onto the upper leaf.

This is a really pleasing composition Karye. The tulip in the center has a nice amount of darks which really makes it stand out. I would add more darks to the other tulips to bring them up to par with the center tulip. There are areas especially where the leaves fold over that need more dark and mid-range toning.

Beautifully rendered and great details Karye! I think you could add more darks to the leaves where they overlap and also the tops of the roots where they emerge.

Hi Karye! I love the composition and your mix of b/w and color! Everything has wonderful form – especially the whole peach! The subjects in color look like they are sitting on top of the page. Also great job on the reflected light! Bravo!

This is a branch from my friend’s garden in Germany. I have been working on this for the last 6 weeks and hit the wall. I think the focus on the apples are diminished by too many leaves, but don’t know what to do. Please help.

I LOVE how you incorporated that branch in the back and get it monochrome. It really sets off the other parts of the drawing. Compositionally, I think that I would rather see that whole peach below the branch instead of on top of it. It just seams a little out place kind of resting on that leaf. If there was another branch above it, where you…[Read more]

Thanks! It was a project from an online class with Denver Botanic Gardens.

Okay, thank you for the feedback.

Thank you for the feedback. I like the idea of attaching the whole peach to another branch. I started this composition in the Peaches workshop last year.
