This is such a happy subject Becky! There are tops of the petals that are light on all sides even though I would expect some to be in full or part shadow. It might be the quality of the post photo, but the whitish petal tops on the two lower flowers on the right are brighter than the same area of the flowers on the left. Considering the light…[Read more]

Greetings Helene! Your irises are beautifully rendered and you have done a wonderful job capturing their structure! I think you could go in with some dark toning in appropriate spots to enhance some of the details and make things pop! It seems like some details especially need clarity on the upper half of the flower on the left. The buds are…[Read more]

Welcome back Jill! Once again you have selected a great challenging subject and have done a wonderful job! I would think about revisit the toning. The drawing is rich in detail but I am missing the range of tones that would give it form. Right now there is no distinguished highlight or range of tones so the viewer can not tell where your light…[Read more]

Hi Sheila! It is a really pleasing composition and I like this on the Kraft paper! On the majority of the bladderwort the color goes to the edges and on most of the friends it does not and they do not look finished. I would definitely touch up the edges!

@doug-milne, thank you. I started out loving this one but then felt something was missing but was scared to go any further. I will darken the petal tops on the right. I’ve been working on my lighting but light source is still hard for me!

Jill, this is gorgeous, and your style is shining through. Like Doug, I would love to see more overall 3D form on that group of little flowers. I’m seeing some – you are getting lighter on the left than the right. But you can push that even more, by visualizing the entire inflorescence as a cylinder (get lightest about a 1/4 of the way in from the…[Read more]

I’m reconfiguring the last drawing and adding a few elements. I’m wondering if the white edges of the paper below the top layer should be touched lightly with watercolor or let it go. I guess it stands out on Kraft paper 🙃🫤

Gorgeous saturated colors Becky! Wonderful texture and form! I would fix the white line on the right side where the edge of the fruit meets the leaf.

Thanks for your feedback, Pam. Actually, I’m not happy with my iris and I’ll be reworking the page. My pencil drawing of the iris was a lot better, but I did it on cheap sketch paper. -

Ishbel, I’m loving this bold orange color with the green. I really like the way you are handling the leaves – the way you are leaving them unfinished is working really well. I have never seen this plant in person, so I don’t know what the surface of the petals is like. But I’m wondering whether you might want there to be a highlight on your…[Read more]

I really love this drawing, Becky. It’s such a sweet composition. Your toned-down reflected highlights look great. It’s a really lovely drawing.
