It is so great to see the progression, Ishbel. Great idea and execution.

Are we looking at the bottom of the tomato here Julie? That’s always such a hard view to draw, always hard to read what it is. I’d tone down the reflective highlight and increase your colour saturation. And then draw a side view. ๐ With sepals even better.

This looks great, Laurie. The colours are really fun to look at. The angles might be too straight/sharp on the secondary veins, giving it a flat folded feeling.

Ooh amazing plant. Looks like you’ll learn a lot practicing these patterns. Will you show us different views?

Epic journey to the ladyslippers! I’m glad you all survived and that we get to see the results. ๐ This tells a great story.

Great study, Fanny. Such a good assignment. You have some lovely pillowing in the leaves. You’ve rendered the folded over top so nicely. It’s great to see the top and bottom. This is lovely to look at.

It has a nice substance to it and I love the variations of green and surface/skin textures.

Yes, Sam, I will attempt different views. Notice I started with the back because the front is too difficult. Planted it three years ago at the edge of the woods. It finally made it and this year has three flowers and beautiful leaves. Don’t want to cut it open until I try drawing it from different angles. Did research on the internet and…[Read more]

This is so beautiful Sheila, such a lovely relationship between each flower!

@sam-mcwilliams this picture got kind of dense and heavy. Experimenting with โbackground โ. We did have a good time communing with the lady slippers, our group spread out on the slope in the woods. Your epic story brought back a movie I saw way back, Picnic at Hanging Rock. Our trip was fun, but it might be interesting to check out this old mov…

Thanks, Maureen. I need to draw them many times. This was my first ever attempt and fun to be in a group. Those orchids cluster, hide, show up here and there!!
-
Hi Shelia, is this glued down or can you change things? I have some suggestions but don’t want to make them, if you can’t do anything about it! Let me know and I will make some comments!
-
Wendy, itโs glued, but I cut up glued work and Iโd really like to hear your suggestions. Thanks!
-
Thanks, Vern. Really glad you were on the expedition with all of us!

Well done, Wendy! Now as I look at it, I’m wanting to see where that dark internal shape of the upper most leaf continues behind the flower. A darker shape behind the tulip would set it off nicely.

Thanks Vern! Here in MI there are trout lilies everywhere in the spring and it is so fun documenting the ephemerals before they disappear. I do have a picture of this clump from a park that I will attempt it again with your recommendations. I don’t have the watercolor supplies yet but am working on some bristol with just colored pencils. I thought…[Read more]
